“Together we learn, together we achieve.” “Wistaston Academy is clearly committed to the arts and understands their value in successfully engaging and inspiring young people.” (Arts Council England Platinum Award, November 2023) We are a two-form entry school in Crewe, Cheshire, and are passionate about providing our children with authentic, creative experiences at every opportunity. We are dedicated to raising our students’ artistic aspirations and to leading them on to a love of life-long learning. We are aware that all learning is fuelled and enhanced through the vehicles of art, drama, dance and music and strive to celebrate our pupils’ achievements. Our Year 5s have been inspired by the creatures of the Amazon and have used the technique of reduction block printing to transpose our original drawings into layered prints. We enjoyed etching into Styrofoam blocks and the deciding which elements to overlay with different colours. We also looked at the sculpture work of Alberto Giacometti, creating our own elongated human forms in our chosen posture.
