Thomas Gainsborough School is a large state maintained comprehensive secondary titan academy located in the market town of Sudbury in West Suffolk, birthplace of the Artist after which it is named. Only the second school in the country to be awarded the platinum level Artsmark award for a third time by the Arts Council of England and the first school in Suffolk to receive a Heritage Schools Award, we were honoured to be shortlisted for the TES 'Creative School of the year' award in 2021. All students at Thomas Gainsborough School are given the opportunity to gain a Bronze level Arts Award, which has also been recognised by Trinity College with 'Trinity Champion' status. We offer a wide range of GCSE endorsements in the visual arts, including fine art, textiles, photography, three dimensional design and graphic communications, with these subjects also being offered at key stage five. Our school boasts prominent and numerous gallery and display areas throughout the site, and our outward looking and collaborative approach to the arts has lead us to develop cross curricular projects with prominent arts, science and heritage organisations and to exhibit our students' work in a variety of locations including the public spaces in Sudbury itself and Gainsborough's House and gallery. At Thomas Gainsborough School we value the arts and the creativity of our young people and keep it at the heart of our teaching, learning and ethos.
