Over the Autumn term, the whole school's art and design lessons focused on colour mixing, from primary colours to mixing tints, tones and shades. As part of Black History Month, we studied the work of Alma Thomas, a 20th-century African American painter. Thomas is best known for her colourful abstract paintings, which use mosaic-like patches of vibrant colour applied in concentric circles or vertical shapes. In our art club, the pupils took inspiration from her work and used their colour-mixing skills to create these vibrant watercolours.
