At Scott Primary we provide a safe, caring and welcoming environment, where every child matters. Individuals and unique ideas are valued, with originality and creativity encouraged though a broad, balanced, and engaging curriculum that is accessible to all.
Together with our parents and the local community we take pride in our children’s positive attitudes towards their work and each other. We encourage our children to take responsibility and to be independent: building life skills to enable them to succeed now and in the future.
Developing and inspiring creativity through the arts is a core part of our curriculum as these are key skills necessary for both work and wellbeing in the 21st Century. At Scott, the children explore diverse cultures and art forms making links to their own work and experimenting to develop existing and new skills.
In this project, children from Year 5 learned about the American artist, Everett Spruill. Spruill was inspired in his youth by Picasso and the Cubist movement, which he combined with his love of stained-glass windows to create vividly coloured landscapes and still life artworks.
Inspired by Spruill, our children created their own landscapes and still life mixed media and collage artworks. For many of the children this was a sustained piece of work, completed over a number of weeks in which they were able to significantly develop their skills in painting with watercolours, using pastels, collaging and colour theory. They were delighted with their finished work.
