At Romsey Abbey Church of England Primary School, we believe that Art enables children to connect with their own imagination, emotions and observations whilst deepening their understanding of the world around them. In Art, we provide our children with contextual opportunities to be creative and expressive whilst developing a range of artistic skills. Providing opportunities for art in context alongside children’s other areas of learning allows us to unlock a deeper enjoyment for learning and better outcomes for all. We aim to develop children’s artistic skills using various mediums to give children a broad knowledge of the many opportunities art can bring both now and in their future lives. Our Year 5 class have been experimenting by creating stunning salt paintings inspired by different planets both in our solar system and creations of their own. Using a mix of salt, paint, and creative techniques, the students have brought the planets to life, exploring textures and colors that mimic the unique features of each one. This hands-on project is not only an exciting artistic endeavor but also a cross-curricular activity that ties in with our science lessons on the solar system and the children’s creative writing inspired by Avatar. As they learned about the planets' characteristics, they used descriptive language to explain their creations, blending science, art, and literacy in a fun and engaging way.
