At Romsey Abbey Church of England Primary School, we believe that Art enables children to connect with their own imagination, emotions and observations whilst deepening their understanding of the world around them. In Art, we provide our children with contextual opportunities to be creative and expressive whilst developing a range of artistic skills. Providing opportunities for art in context alongside children’s other areas of learning allows us to unlock a deeper enjoyment for learning and better outcomes for all. We aim to develop children’s artistic skills using various mediums to give children a broad knowledge of the many opportunities art can bring both now and in their future lives. The curriculum goal for our Year 5 pupils this half term is to produce a piece of art using objects from within Romsey Abbey, or Romsey Abbey itself, as inspiration. This artwork should consider scale, proportion and shading techniques and will be shared with parents, carers and the wider community. The following objectives will be focused upon within this project: To use scale and proportion accurately when drawing. To understand the concept of perspective. To produce increasingly accurate drawings of buildings and objects. To understand the effect of light on objects from different directions.
