Nidderdale High School is a thriving and unique 11-16 comprehensive school set in the rural location of Pateley Bridge, an area of outstanding natural beauty. At Nidderdale High School, every child really does matter and we work hard to ensure that all is done in our students’ best interests - whether that be providing a curriculum matched to their abilities and interests, or ensuring their progression to the most appropriate pathway after they finish their qualifications. We pride ourselves on providing a nurturing environment that also challenges students to achieve the highest academic standards. Our Year 9 Mutant Fish project teaches our students new techniques such as dry point etching to develop their skill set. We look at ceramist James De Rosso and create clay work taking inspiration from him as well as independent research on sea life. Along side these classroom based studies, we run a Home Learning Project based on the theme of 'Pollution' where students can extend their contextual studies of artists/craftspeople and photographers who are inspired by the theme of environmental issues. After the clay has been fired, we use acrylic paints to add colour and tone and then guide students through how to successfully photograph their work. We then use these photos to develop their images further using layers on Photoshop, combining their 2D and 3D work today. Sponsored by The Arts Society Nidd Valley
