At Mangotsfield School our Year 9 students have been exploring Portraits in our unit about Art History. We have researched different Portraits throughout time— taking a look at various Artists and Artistic Movements and recreating chosen examples using watercolour to produce an initial fact file. As an extension of the project— and to further our Year 9’s understanding of Art History, students participated in a school trip to the National Art Gallery in London. Here they were able to fully appreciate the scale, vision and the finer qualities of the Artworks first hand. Following the trip, our Year 9s went on to photograph themselves posed as their selected Portrait. From these photographs, students have drawn and painted themselves in place of the sitter from the original Artworks. All the work has been created using watercolour paint and watercolour pencil.
