John Mason School is a 11-18 school situated in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, and is part of the Abingdon Learning Trust education group. Our school vision is ‘to nurture curiosity and fuel a passion for learning – shaping confident individuals and resilient communities, stronger together and ambitious for the future.’ Through authentic learning experiences and opportunity to experience new things, we endeavour to offer students a rich education that inspires aspirations, enquiry and confidence. We believe every child has the potential to make a difference in the world, to be ambitious in their career choices, and to contribute to society. Our school values of ‘opportunity, respect and determination’, underpin our curriculum design, covering science, computer technology, languages, humanities, sport and the creative, performing and visual arts to the fullest extent possible. Our past history as a Visual Arts specialist school has left a legacy of the 06 Gallery space which continues to showcase and celebrate students’ art and design endeavours in a professional setting, aiming to keep inspiring the next generation of creatively skilled thinkers and practitioners. In this project Year 9 were challenged to design and create characterful Jungle illustrations, inspired by a range of artists from Henri Rousseau to children's book illustrators. The artworks are 3D layered to add depth and teach compositional understanding. We are very proud of their efforts and conscientious approach to refine their designs to realise their personal aims within each piece.
