Grange Primary School is part of The Northern Lights Learning Trust in the coastal town of Hartlepool on the north east coast. This year, our entries are linked to a local project called ‘Sea change’ which has been initiated by The Joseph Rowntree Foundation. It aims to gather and change the perceptions of children in Hartlepool about wealth and we have started looking at this by asking the children what ‘wealth’ means to them and how they themselves feel wealthy because of the wonderful town in which we live. We are passionate at Grange in being part of the wider community of Hartlepool and host regular exhibitions of local artists alongside our little artists work. I hope viewers enjoy looking at the beautiful paintings produced in this half terms art lessons whilst studying the work of two artists, Vanessa Gardiner and The Shoreditch Sketcher. The children were invited to use the styles of either of these artists to impact their own work or to develop their own style through studying a place that means something to them and applying previously taught skills, taking risks and experimenting with different paints. We have a good mix of these three. I hope you enjoy exploring Hartlepool through their depictions. 😊
