We are a large primary school in Hartlepool and we will soon be part of The Northern Lights Academy. Our school is dedicated to Art provision and show this through a dedicated Art studio and teacher which children from Y2 to Y6 access each half term. We have good connections with The Northern School Of Art and Hartlepool Art Gallery and Museum Service with whom we develop and enhance our curriculum offer. We have a weekly art club in which we raise aspirations for future careers in Art and Design. We have recently been looking at the many faces of our new King and how his passion and experience in a range of fields has prepared him for his new role. This has been the basis for some of our entries for Y5 this year for those children that have produced work during Art Club . The other entries are from maquettes produced after an in-depth look into the Book, October, October by Katya Balen. The children explored prose and extracted the key information to inform a set and stage designer. We follow Access Art curriculum but adapt it to our texts covered at school. After studying Rae Smith and her set design of War Horse, the pupils identified the detail required to 'set the scene'.
